Bideford Town Band Committee strongly believes that all members within its organisation are entitled to participate in its activities in an enjoyable and safe environment. This particularly applies to young people/children under the age of 18 years and also vulnerable adults.
It is vitally important that
• the welfare of the child/young person/vulnerable adult is paramount
• that we ensure they participate in banding activities whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, racial origin in a safe environment.
• That all reasonable steps are taken to protect them from harm, discrimination and degrading treatment and respect their rights, wishes and failings
• swiftly take action appropriately to all suspicions and allegations of poor practice or abuse.
To this end the Band Committee have appointed a Child Protection/Safeguarding Officer to act as a focal point and to advise the Band Committee and all members of the Senior and Training bands on procedure relating to Child Protection.
He is: John Croker a trombone player with the band and Assistant Conductor. John has been associated with local Brass Bands for many years and is a Life member of Bideford Town band. Before his retirement from the Police Service John was in charge of the North Devon Police Child Protection Team. He can be contacted on 01237 475438 or e-mail email@example.com, where any enquiry will be dealt with in confidence and sympathetically. He does not see it as his responsibility to decide whether any sort of abuse has taken place but does have a responsibility to liaise with the necessary authorities if required.
Child Protection Policies will be reviewed annually to ensure they are kept up to date.
If a more detailed description of forms of Child Protection/abuse and procedures are required an excellent website is provided by the British Federation of Brass Bands, although Bideford Band is not a member.
